The Mnweni Circuit is often described as the hidden gem of the Drakensberg—a three-day, high-altitude adventure through the dramatic valleys, passes, and towering escarpments of Mnweni, a region steeped in both natural beauty and cultural heritage. Beginning at 1,275 m (4,183 ft) above sea level and rising to a lofty 3,272 m (10,735 ft), the route threads through remote Zulu cattle feed plains, sculpted sandstone valleys, and the sheer basalt walls that define this wild corner of the uKhahlamba mountains.

In springtime, the Mnweni comes alive: wildflowers of the vast Sugarbush Protea bloom across the high meadows, rivers run fresh and clear, and hikers can expect mild daytime temperatures around 18–20 °C and cool nights averaging 6–8 °C, with crisp air and breathtaking clarity at altitude.
